“Anybody can do it.”
How many times have you heard that applied to marketing? The basic premise is that you don’t really need any training, expertise, or education to conduct a marketing campaign or direct a project. You just “do it.”
There’s some truth to the statement. You don’t need training or education to jump in. You can put out your shingle tomorrow – call yourself a marketer – and go at it. There are very few barriers to entry.
But here’s the thing. If you want to successfully compete against others for a coveted spot on a marketing team or if you are starting your own business and need to get customers in your door—you better bring you’re “A” game because others are doing the same. The competition’s stiff out there. Just look at how many people are applying for the same remote jobs. It’s often in the hundreds.
The AMA has always been about providing marketers with the information, knowledge, and insight they need to be successful, and the Triangle Chapter has a proud record of delivering those benefits.
But times have changed and we need to change with them. COVID-19 changed how we all think about group gatherings. We’re now more selective and tend to only go to events where we believe we will get the “biggest bang for our buck.” We also have access to more marketing information and knowledge online. In fact, we’re inundated with data. Finally, we’re all struggling to understand and keep up with the mind-blowing changes that are occurring around artificial intelligence (AI).
ADAPT OR DIE
So how will the AMA Triangle Chapter adapt? What does the AMA Triangle Chapter hope to provide so that it addresses these changes and provides real value to its members?
First, we’re going to drill down on helping our members became the most AI savvy marketers in the Triangle. We intend to do this by offering a 6-part workshop series that will marry the latest AI trends and processes with traditional marketing functions. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting program.
Second, we’re not going to do events just to do events. We want them to be unique, informative, engaging, dynamic, and fun. We hope to do fewer events this year but do those that have more impact. What will those be? We’re still in the planning stages, but they’re coming. Be on the lookout.
Third, we intend to do more networking. We’ve always stressed the value of being connected through the AMA Triangle, but we often haven’t provided the right vehicles to make that happen. Our goal is to change that scenario and help our members meet more of their colleagues and peers.
And finally, we are going to supercharge our community and college relations efforts, expand our DEI efforts, continue our tradition of offering high-quality career services and insight, and better communicate and engage with our members.
That’s our goal. Now we have to deliver.
VOLUNTEERISM
The Board of Directors is excited about the upcoming year, and we hope you will be as well. We would also welcome your participation since it literally takes a team (or a village) to accomplish these goals. And we’re making it easy for you. Soon, we will provide a list of micro-volunteer opportunities on our website – limited, time-specific roles you can fulfill without having to commit to any long-term commitment. Won’t you join us? It’s not only rewarding but fun as well, and you get to meet a whole new bunch of people.
Thank you for entrusting us with your membership, and we hope that you have a highly successful and prosperous rest of the year (and next year), in part because of our small contribution to your training, networking, education, and professional development.
